The challenges posed by Covid-19 and global instability also present opportunities for Vietnam to become a leading tourism destination and an attractive experiential destination for international tourists, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2022 in Quang Nam on March 26.

He asked that ministries, agencies, Quang Nam province, and localities around the country continue promoting Vietnam’s achievements in overcoming the difficulties and challenges and at the same time actively coordinate to fully implement a number of key tasks.

Firstly, it is necessary to continue to consistently develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector, linking tourism development with conservation and the promotion of heritage values and the national cultural identity, and to develop tourism towards professionalism, modernity, civilization, quality, and efficiency.

Secondly, there must be a focus on building a “green” tourism environment, as in the theme of “Quang Nam - A green tourist destination” for National Tourism Year 2022.

Thirdly, potential and advantages must be maximized and links and cooperation between localities and regions strengthened to create synergy in tourism development.

Fourthly, it is necessary to be proactive and flexible to further promote the reopening of the international tourism market in association with safe and flexible adaptation during the “new normal”, ensuring safety in accordance with the Socio-Economic Development and Recovery Program.

Remaining tasks are to implement policies to create favorable conditions for tourism to develop sustainably, and to boost coordination and cooperation between ministries, agencies, Quang Nam leaders, and localities in the central coastal region to create favorable conditions and quickly address difficulties in tourism activities and attracting investment.

The Prime Minster also touched on the need to promote Vietnam’s tourism to the world via many different channels and forms.
