The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has approved an action plan to implement the National Strategy on Green Growth from 2021-2030, which specifies tasks relating to green transition in the sector.

Targets set by the agricultural sector include the proportion of organic fertilizer products out of total fertilizer produced and consumed to reach over 30 per cent by 2030, with the number of biological plant protection drugs on the list of pesticides permitted for use to be over 30 per cent, and at least 30 per cent of the total irrigated dry crop area to apply advanced and water-saving irrigation methods.

It aims to promote green consumption and develop markets for green agro-forestry-fisheries products by offering direct support for investment and production, infrastructure, and trade promotion. Green, low-carbon agricultural product value chains for key agricultural products, associated with labeling agricultural products and green OCOP (One commune, One product) products, will also be developed.

In order to secure investment capital for green growth, the sector focuses on mobilizing social resources, especially from businesses. It will also strengthen international cooperation to call for financial support and technology transfer in order to make Vietnam’s agriculture a model of green, low-carbon, food-safe development and improve its competitiveness in the region.

The agricultural sector has set a goal of growing about 2.8-3 per cent in 2022, with total export turnover to come in at about $55 billion.
